Work experience

Connecting you to a career

We believe that breaking into the music industry can be as much about ‘who you know’ as ‘what you know’. That’s why we use our unique links with the industry, and our impressive little black book of contacts, to generate hundreds of work experience placements every year for our students.

We’ve set up a dedicated team at each of our colleges whose job it is to create and promote exceptional work experience opportunities every day. Maybe it’s an internship with a cool independent or major record label? Or perhaps work-based learning opportunities with a publishing company or promoter? Either way, it’s sure to be exciting!

At BIMM we’re dedicated in our role as a centre of excellence for career development, making sure all our students have access to industry work experience placements that are relevant and appropriate to their area of study and level.

We’re also committed to making sure our students get the best from their experience, so we continually monitor our work placements and internships so we know our students are safe and happy in their learning environment.

We encourage our students to book tutorials for careers advice and guidance.

WHAT IS WORK-BASED LEARNING?

Some of our courses include work experience as a formal, assessed part of their structure. Where this is the case, it’s known as ‘Work-Based Learning’ (WBL). Some examples of courses include Music Business, Music Journalism, Events Management and Music Industry Management.

We take our Work-Based Learning very seriously. We use it to make sure our students are ‘work ready’ and have the relevant experience, contacts and skills to compete in such a highly competitive industry. WBL plays a centre role in developing key employability skills, including self management, team working, enterprise, communication, and application of IT skills.
