It’s that time of the year again when we let you know the results of our BIMM Graduate Survey! We like to keep an eye on what our graduates have been up to since leaving us, so we can both applaud their achievements and also make sure that we’re living up to our commitment to connect them to a life in music. So after surveying our graduating class of 2016, the results are in… and it’s brilliant news, with improvements on last year’s results!
Not only is our vocational approach to learning working, which tailors courses to deliver relevant skills for the creative industries, but it’s improving too, with 82% of BIMM alumni in work only six months after graduating (last year’s figure was 79%). And of those BIMM alumni employed, 72% are working in the music industry or wider creative industries, in roles such as musician, marketing manager, social media executive, music teacher, producer, music publisher.
Not every student who studies at BIMM will necessarily become a live performer, often as students progress through their course the breadth of opportunities in both music and the creative industries become apparent. A great example of this is Vlad Matveikov, a former guitar student at BIMM who has progressed to running his own recording/practice studio, Small Pond in Brighton. Check out the video below to find out more about Vlad and Small Pond.
We found that an education with BIMM really does connect you directly to the music industry and wider creative industries, as 84% of students said they engaged with the music industry while at BIMM.
Of those surveyed, 64% said they found work through a network established while studying at BIMM, and 73% of BIMM alumni are employed in jobs specifically looking to recruit graduates, proving that BIMM courses are both practical and academic, and make you highly employable.
So… what overall conclusions can we draw from these figures? It’s that connectivity, and knowledge of the music business, really are key to securing a career in the creative industries. All courses at BIMM – even Performance disciplines – include modules explaining how the music industry operates, so if it’s there that you see your career heading, then there’s no better place to study than BIMM.
