Paul Lester

Paul Lester was Features Editor of Melody Maker during the ‘Madchester’, grunge and Britpop eras before becoming Deputy Editor of music and movie magazine Uncut. In 2007 he went freelance, and has since written for The Sunday Times, The Guardian, The Independent, The Telegraph, The Express and Record Collector.

He has interviewed thousands of artists, including Mick Jagger, Stevie Wonder, The Jacksons, Black Sabbath, Kylie Minogue, Eric Clapton, Chic, Drake and Pharrell Williams. He had his own show on Amazing Radio for four years and has written books on postpunk bands Wire and Gang Of Four as well as Pharrell, Dizzee Rascal, Pink, Lady Gaga, Blur, Oasis, Pulp and many more. He has travelled the world interviewing stars, from Björk in New York and Brian Wilson in LA to Todd Rundgren in Hawaii and Marc Almond in Beirut.

Paul wrote the Guardian online New Band of the Day and New Band of the Week columns for over ten years. He continues to champion music old and new. When he’s not teaching, he writes biographies and CD sleeve-notes and interviews musicians for the Guardian, MOJO, Classic Rock, Classic Pop and Prog magazines
