AMÉ & Promises Promises - Pretty Things

Track of the Week

Wait, it’s the first Monday in August? How did that happen?

But welcoming you in to the new week is a brand new Track of the Week. This is BIMM Bristol pop songstress AMÉ and her awesome collaboration with Promises Promises. This is ‘Pretty Things’ – take a listen, and find out where the song came from below!

What was your inspiration when you began writing the track?
Promises Promises and I wanted to create a track that was upbeat and fun for summer. My inspiration came from feeling very content with everything in my life at the moment and recent events led me to really consider how lucky I am and how happy I am in my relationship.

Are there any artists that inspire you when writing?
I really look to chart music when writing with Jonny and Jonny, artists such as Dua Lipa and Sigrid really inspire me.

What is key to your sound and how do you make your music stand out?
Lead lines and hooks within the production really elevate my music, especially in Pretty Things. Vocal parts and harmonies are very important to me and my sound and it is important to me that the melody is strong and catchy. I think the fact that I release pop music with a spin makes my music stand out. I think my voice has a unique sound.

How does your songwriting process work?
Jonny, Jonny and I brainstorm ideas and feelings for a song, as well as inspirations and vibes. We then put these feelings into lyrics along with chords. Jonny Glennon starts to build the track in terms of production and we start to layer everything together. Jonny’s production helps the vision become a reality!

Describe your sound in 3 words…
Expressive, fun, honest.

How has studying at BIMM helped you develop as an artist?
Three years at BIMM have helped me discover who I am as a person and as an artist. Performing and learning academically has helped me grow and I thank BIMM for that.

What’s next for you?
I would love to say that this project will become my full time work. But being a solo DIY artist is very hard work and I have bills to pay! I am going to work and travel and keep AMÉ going whenever I can. So expect more releases and fun updates for the next year or so!
