BIMM Birmingham updates

It’s been six months since BIMM Birmingham first opened its doors to the next generation of music industry professionals for the city, as well as nationwide. Principal Antony Greaves recently wrote a reflective article featuring highlights from the campus so far. But there’s plenty more news to report. Here’s a quick overview of the latest goings on.

Tom Longworth classes

Students are attending three exclusive classes and one-to-one tutorials with Robbie Williams guitar ace Tom Longworth ahead of him joining the BIMM Birmingham team as a tutor in 2018/19. The classes cover the skills required in the session world including versatility, professionalism and guitar tone secrets. Student Tom Holt said ‘The session was great! Tom relates everything back to the guitar and can demonstrate exactly the point he is making. I’m really excited about him teaching us more next year”.

James Maiden, Head of Education from BIMM Birmingham added;

“As a touring and recording guitarist for one of the biggest artists in the world, Tom has been somebody we’ve been engaging with throughout the year, starting with a masterclass and progressing to some more regular classes that Tom designed because he feels these subjects are so vital for musicians to learn. We are very excited about his increased involvement with us because we can see the huge benefits that this will provide for our students. It serves to underline BIMM’s commitment to ensuring we deliver high quality music education that is delivered by tutors who continue to work within the industry at the highest level.”

Birmingham welcomes Erik Nielson

Erik Nielsen has joined the music business team and began teaching for the final term of the year ahead of his first full academic year delivering on the BA in Music Business in 2018/19. Erik has vast experience and is a real asset to us at BIMM Birmingham. His experience working with clients who are some of the biggest names in music – including Elton John, James Blunt and Bryan Ferry – will really bring the students learning to life and enhance the development of our students who are already managing and developing some of the best young artists in Birmingham.

Pete Williams supported live by Songwriting student

Artist Development tutor Pete Williams has a new album coming out in June and recently delivered an extremely well received show at the Birmingham REP theatre. Equally exciting is the fact he hand-picked BIMM Birmingham year 1 BA (Hons) Songwriting student Felix Shepherd as his main support act on the night. Felix’s performance went down very well indeed and his debut EP ‘Polar Points’ was also just recently released and was recently playlisted on Brum Radio
