Here at BIMM, we want to say huge congrats to BIMM Dublin graduate Daniel McIntyre, aka lullahush, who has been nominated for the Rising Star Ivor Novello Award!
Daniel, aka lullahush, studied Commercial Modern Music at our Dublin college, specialising in Songwriting and majoring in Analytical Perspectives. Since graduating in 2018, he has been making his mark on the industry, and has now been recognised by the prestigious Ivors.
The Irish songwriter and multi-talented instrumentalist caught the attention of the awards’ judges and electronica fans alike with his singles ‘Elysium’ and ‘If Spring Had a Spare Room I’d Rent It With You’, bringing together lullahush’s unique sound of layered poetic vocals and clipped electronic collages.
It feels amazing to be nominated. It’s an honour and a wonderful sign of encouragement… My publisher rang me screaming!
The Rising Star Award (with Apple Music) is the first new Ivor Novello Award category to be introduced in a decade and aims to honour young British and Irish songwriting and composing talent who demonstrate exceptional potential and ambition. The new award helps to discover, support, and further the careers of the most promising music creators in the UK and Ireland.
“All at BIMM Institute Dublin are delighted for Daniel and extremely proud of his achievement. However, we are not hugely surprised by it,” Mark Greaney, Head of Education, BIMM Institute Dublin says. “Throughout his time in BIMM Dublin, Daniel demonstrated what can only be described as a prodigious talent, which was coupled with an exemplary attitude to those around him. He endeared himself to lecturers, staff and his peers by being a truly collaborative and creative practitioner.
We know that this is a prestigious and well-deserved stepping stone for Daniel, which will contribute to a long and successful career.
As is the case for all of our students, past and present, BIMM Institute Dublin is a family and Daniel is a remarkable member of that family. Congratulations Daniel.
– Mark Greaney, Head of Education, BIMM Institute Dublin
Last year, The Ivors Academy put out a public call for submissions for the Rising Star Award, which received the most applications for any category in their 65-year history. lullahush is now just one of five nominees shortlisted for the award which will see the winner announced on 2nd September 2020.
As well as bagging a much-coveted accolade, the award also includes a new mentoring scheme from Apple Music. All nominees – including Daniel – will get the chance to enjoy a year-long mentorship from a well-established Academy member (including Nile Rodgers, Fraser T. Smith, Kamille, Anna Meredith and David Arnold) to help develop their networks, discover new opportunities and learn how to navigate their careers.
Good luck Daniel for 2nd September. We’ll be rooting for you! If you’re interested in learning more about our student successes, and about BIMM Institute in general, we are now offering Virtual Open Days. Sign up here.
