BIMM Dublin launches scholarship with Dermot Kennedy
Here at BIMM Institute Dublin, we’re extremely proud to announce the launch of The Dermot Kennedy Foundation Diploma in Professional Musicianship Scholarship for the academic year 2021/2022.
The Scholarship will offer one lucky student a coveted place on our practical and vocational, part-time Foundation Diploma in Professional Musicianship course that’s perfect for musicians at any age looking to further their abilities. It’s part of our continued commitment to support new Irish artists.
Dermot Kennedy X BIMM Institute Dublin
It’s no secret that Dermot Kennedy is one of Ireland’s most successful singer-songwriters. His debut album, Without Fear, was released in 2019 and has become the longest-running Number One album in the Irish Charts by an Irish artist since records began. It is currently certified seven times platinum and has picked up over two billion global streams across digital platforms.

However, like many musicians in the business, Dermot has faced challenges throughout the pandemic. Many of his highly anticipated live dates have had to be cancelled and rescheduled. So, to show his support as the industry reopens, Dermot has partnered with BIMM Institute Dublin to offer this new scholarship that gives a helping hand and a fantastic starting platform for burgeoning musicians preparing to launch their music career. As the scholarship winner, one student will have their course fees paid in full.
“I’m particularly excited about choosing the recipient and hopefully helping them on their own musical journey.”

Commenting on the announcement, Dermot says: “I’m so, so excited to have this scholarship awarded in my name, in the same town where I fell in love with music, played my first show, and found my way through a life in music.” Dermot will choose the scholarship winner himself and added: “I’m particularly excited about choosing the recipient and hopefully helping them on their own musical journey and in creating their own story, so thank you once again.”
Alan Cullivan, BIMM Institute Dublin’s College Principal, is also tremendously excited about the scholarship. He says: “It’s fantastic to see an artist like Dermot, who not only speaks up for other artists and musicians but is also doing something in a practical sense to help. We are delighted to collaborate with him as part of the college’s commitment to helping Ireland’s future artists achieve their ambitions.”
