BIMM Manchester Freshers Events

It’s that brilliant time of year where we’re joined by a brand new cohort of students, all starting the courses which will in turn lead them to bright young careers in the music industry. Before all that though, there’s the important matter of our Freshers events to address. Here’s a run-down of what’s on for new BIMM Manchester students. 

The BIMM Social – Monday 17th

Hatch is a place for creatives and makers, and it also purveys some of the best street food outlets in Manchester. Come and meet your fellow Freshers whilst enjoying some quality eats with DJ sets into the evening.  Hatch – 7-10pm

Open Mic night – Tuesday 18th

Hosted by BIMM Manchester’s head of LPW Jimmy Docherty, the Bierkeller Open Mic night is a weekly open mic hotspot. Sign up at the bar on the night to perform. Soloists, duos and bands are all welcome. And if performing isn’t your thing, just come down to soak up the atmosphere and watch some great live acts. Bierkeller – 8pm

Lamplight Sessions – Wednesday 19th

Lamplight sessions is an intimate night of music with songs and stories featuring four BIMM Manchester acts. This bi-monthly event runs across some of Manchester’s best-loved live music venues, and is the perfect way to experience some of the best new music in the city. Gullivers – 7.30pm

BIMM Bar Crawl – Thursday 20th – 7pm

The biggest event of Freshers week. The BIMM Bar Crawl will take you on a journey to some of the city’s best-loved bars, pubs and hang out spots. Put on your (optional) zoo themed fancy dress gear and meet at the designated starting location. The night will finish off at 1 of 2 different choices of nightclubs. Collect your map and guide at Bank Chambers reception.

Friday Night Live – Friday 21st

Come to 29 Jackson’s Row for a monthly showcase featuring some of the best live entertainment Manchester has to offer. Enjoy discounted drinks offers and free entry to the club night afterwards. Venue – 8.30pm

Live Music Bingo – Jimmy’s

Get ready for a Bingo experience like no other. Watch and listen to the house band playing party tunes live. If the song and artist are listed on your card, strike it off! The first person to cross off their entire card is the winner. BINGO! Limited spaces available. Sign up at BIMM reception if you wish to attend. Jimmy’s – 7.30pm

‘BIMM Just Wants To Have Fun’ 80s Night -Tuesday 25th

Dance the night away to some of the biggest hits of the 80s, with Scary Monsters DJ’s spinning the best tunes of the decade. Ruby Lounge – 10pm

Freshers Live –  Wednesday 26

Come and see 15 bands performing one song each in this showcase of covers and original compositions. This is an introduction to BIMM’s own ‘End Of Term Gig’ process. Come along to find out how you can get involved throughout the year. Night People – 7.30pm

DJ Workshop for self-identified women – Thursday 27th

This workshop will allow you to learn the basics of DJ’ing of CJD’s in a supportive and friendly environment. Discover the theory and culture of DJ’ing and pick up some useful hints and tips from your hosts HESSKA and M T HALL (Pale Master). Remember to bring a USB with 10-20 songs you know well. It’s best if they have a strong beat and similar tempo. Careers & Creativity Hub – Bank Chambers -6pm

Girl Boss Presents – Thursday 27th

BIMM Student led promotions company Girl Boss presents a night of acoustic music featuring BIMM acts Crying Beauty Queens, Kiki Annette, Four Corners, Sugar, Hamish and Dakota Avenue. Night People – 7.30pm
