Bonzai - Doses

Track of the Week

“This is a crazy tune and I love it.”

Bonzai is one of the most exciting artists to come out of BIMM London. A Dubliner who studied songwriting, she’s since been picked up by national and international radio and signed to Anchor Point Records – the label of Songwriter/Producer Mura Masa.

Last week Bonzai was interviewed on BBC Radio 1Xtra and Radio 1. Presenter Jamz Supernova was filling Toddla T’s slot and told her audience “As soon as I heard that I was gonna be doing the show I was like, there’s only one lady that I want to interview, her name is Bonzai. She’s brave, interesting and we’re gonna have a great chat.”

With influences from Sting and Jamiroquai to Ashanti and Missy Elliot, her sound is hard to define. When pushed she went for “Twisted R&B or Punk R&B”.

Her debut E.P ‘Royah’ is dedicated to her best friend who’s soon to be a mum. The first track, ‘Doses’ is about the stuff that she’s had to give up, the loss of freedom that the responsibility of a baby brings.

Annie Mac loved it so much she declare it her ‘Hottest Record in the World’

We agree.

Meanwhile over on Beats1, Zane Lowe made track 3 of the EP ‘Nikka’ his #WorldRecord

2016 will see Bonzai:
Maybe doing another EP
Touring with Masa
Touring on her own

She’s playing at AMP (Annie Mac Presents) on 10th March with current BIMM London student Miles Pascall playing drums.
