BIMM London alumna Izzy Bizu has been named as one of the three shortlisted artists for the esteemed Critics’ Choice Award at the 2016 BRITs. Earlier this year, BIMM Brighton graduate – and now platinum-selling artist – James Bay took home the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award for 2015.
It’s no surprise that the Critics’ Choice is such a sought-after prize when you see all the previous winners, each of whom have gone on to enormous success. The list includes first ever winner, Adele who was followed by Florence + The Machine, Ellie Goulding, Jessie J, Emeli Sandé, Sam Smith plus BIMM alumni, Tom Odell and – earlier this year – James Bay. It’s an impressive collection of artists who’ve collectively sold over 21 million albums between them since winning!
Pop-soul singing Londoner, Izzy studied Vocals at BIMM London, achieving her Diploma in 2012 and is naturally overjoyed with her nomination:
“I’m so honoured to be nominated for the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award this year, following in the footsteps of amazingly talented artists like Adele, Emeli Sande and James Bay, so thank you! I grew up watching the BRITs on the TV at home so it’s pretty exciting to be a part of it!”
Nominees – and the ultimate winner – are chosen by an expert panel, including heads of music from radio and TV, along with editors from national newspapers and music magazines. Izzy is joined in the final list by electronic artist, Jack Garratt and pianist-singer, Frances. The three were chosen from a list of over 100 finalists. Let’s not forget it’s not just the overall winners who go onto greater things – in 2015 the band Years and Years were beaten to the winning spot by BIMM’s James Bay, yet have experienced major success throughout the year.
The next BRIT Awards take place in February 2016, however the Critics’ Choice Award-Winner will be announced this Friday 27 November, so we’re keeping everything crossed for Izzy!
