Caustic Minds: Death Ray Disco

Track of the Week

It’s Monday, and it’s the week of Valentines Day – but our Track of the Week is not in any way related!

This week we’ve got a great release from BIMM Berlin’s Caustic Minds – this is ‘Death Ray Disco.’

What inspired you when writing this track?
The singer was inspired by a personal story and reflected herself in the lyrics. The story is about a person who’s parents forbid her to participate in certain things that are completely normal. This person eventually breaks out of this trap and does whatever she wants – just in an extreme way.

The drums and guitar idea came out of a jam during a rehearsal. We immediately got inspired by the groovy disco-drums which lead to the development of the instrumentation, as well as the vocal melody.

The singer sent an idea of a riff to the bassist, who then developed it further and made the main riff of the song.

Were there any particular music influences while you were writing?

To be completely honest, vocal-wise, the singer doesn’t even know where the influences came from. She’s listening to many different genres and has influences all around them, so it’s hard to tell what inspired her to write such a vocal melody. Instrumental-wise, bands such as “Queens of the Stone Age”, “Black Sabbath” and also “Arctic Monkeys” have been great inspirations.

Is there anything you both do to try and make your music stand out?
We try to apply our individual sound and authenticity as much as possible, while keeping certain inspirational ways that’s shaped us become who we are.

How did your songwriting process work?
The instrumental mostly happened during rehearsal, after each individual worked on their instrument themselves. The lyrics and vocal melody has manly been written at the singers home.

Describe your sound in 3 words…
Loud ( as f*** )

How has studying at BIMM helped you develop as an artist?

It has helped us in a way of finding our sound and creating music together.

What’s your favourite thing about BIMM?
The fact of being able to make as many experiences as possible, especially when it comes to playing with all kinds of people.

Anything exciting coming up you can share?

We will record and release our first EP in a few months, so… stay tuned !!
