4th year Commercial Modern Music student Conor King has had an exciting year, we caught up with him to find out what he’s been up to…

Can you give us a little overview of what you’ve been up to recently?
Recently I’ve been playing some great shows around Ireland with Sorcha Richardson, supporting Imelda May on her Irish tour. I’ve also been adjusting to life in 4th year and keeping the diary healthy with corporate/function gigs.

What acts are you playing with at the moment?
At the moment I’m playing with Maria Kelly, Erica Cody, and Tim Chadwick, as well as working on “BASQ” – an original alternative R&B project comprising of fellow 4th years.

Have there been any standout moments for you over the past year?
I’ve been very fortunate to play some great gigs over the last year. A standout moment for me was playing The Great Escape festival in Brighton with Maria. It was my first overseas festival and the whole experience was very enjoyable, I think we played a great set and we were extremely well looked after.

What was it like supporting Imelda May on her Irish tour?
I really enjoyed the tour, it was great to see first-hand how her band and crew operated. She’s the ultimate professional and having the opportunity to play some of the largest venues in the country was a great experience.

How do you feel BIMM has prepared you for these events?
I feel BIMM has prepared me immensely for events like this. I think for anybody in their 1st year it’s important to try and get on the End of Term and Live & Lyrical gigs and play these venues to become familiar with how large events are run.

Have you anything else lined up over the coming year?
Being in 4th year at the moment it’s all about balancing college with work outside of BIMM. I’m really looking forward to playing Other Voices in December with Maria Kelly.
