Coronavirus Advice and Guidance

Updated 18th August

As the restrictions here in Germany continue to lift and we welcome the warmth of summer, we are working hard to ensure that our new and returning students have a fantastic experience at BIMM in the upcoming academic year.

In Semester 1, we are planning to return to on-site, face-to-face delivery for as broad a range of classes as possible. Some classes will be delivered online to enable us to comply with social distancing regulations. You can find links to our infographics here, which are packed with helpful information, demonstrating which modules will be taught on campus, online, and through a blended delivery.

We are committed to maximising access to our state-of-the-art facilities for all students. We will begin to open up access to our purpose-built rehearsal and studio space for our returning students ahead of the start of Semester 1. This means that they can benefit from access to our excellent facilities in preparation for returning to study.

While our enrolment process has gone online, we will be launching a full programme of exciting and interesting induction events in September to welcome our new students in style. After consultation with the responsible authorities, we are pleased to announce that we will be able to resume our blended approach to classroom teaching from 28th September. Of course, all this will be done in strict compliance with the official hygiene and distance rules conforming to the safety concepts for our colleges, as the safety and health of our students, tutors, and staff are our top priority.

At BIMM, we are in close and regular contact with the German health and education authorities and closely monitor developments. Over the summer, we have been gradually opening up our services and access to our campuses in Hamburg and Berlin. At both centres:

  • The team are very pleased to be back in the buildings, social distancing, and busy enhancing the facilities for the next academic year
  • We have opened for booked tours for prospective students
  • We have completed full Risk Assessments in compliance with local guidelines and are preparing the spaces for teaching and other core activities, such as rehearsals, tutorials, and open access to the Mac Labs
  • We are preparing the facilities for use by returning students ahead of the start of teaching

The German government has decided to gradually lift the current travel restrictions from third countries to Germany given the partial improvement of the epidemiological situation in various countries. According to this decision, entries from the EU/Schengen states and from third countries with a low incidence of infection (please see here for updates) are possible. This includes entries for foreign students from third countries whose studies cannot be carried out entirely from abroad.

Despite the current challenges we are all facing, we’re still dedicated to creating a rich programme of events. Throughout Term 3 of the last academic year, we successfully delivered all lessons and Masterclasses digitally, bringing them directly to our students’ homes.

During the start of this summer, we provided Summer Sessions to all current and prospective students. This was an initiative launched to ensure our students stay connected. The itinerary was packed with Masterclasses to bring students the very best advice, knowledge, experience and insight into the industry. We also had expert-led workshops to help students put what they have learned into practice, and tutorials for students to receive feedback on ideas and get advice on their career.

There is also a virtual gig featuring artists from across the BIMM Group on 4th of September.

We are running virtual admissions events, so our new and prospective students feel connected and learn more about our colleges.

Our creative community spirit remains strong. Together, our students have launched several innovative initiatives to keep the music playing. You can read about them here.

We will continue to keep everyone fully informed in terms of the steps we are taking to ensure your admissions process is as smooth and efficient as possible.

We understand that it is a challenging time for all students who have been working hard towards their high-school and college qualifications, and are now unsure about how those qualifications will be awarded in the summer. But there is no need to put your life on hold to delay your next steps in your educational journey. BIMM Institute Berlin and Hamburg are planning to open as normal in September and welcome our new cohorts.

BIMM has always been a creative community and, as such, we place a great deal of emphasis on the audition and interview element of your application, as your creative ability and goals are at the heart of our curriculum. Regardless of what plans your Government will announce regarding qualifications and completion of these, we would like to reassure you that BIMM will primarily be focussing on your audition/interview with us when making an offer. While a level of academic achievement is required for all our degree courses, we will continue to offer places to students who we believe will get the most out of the BIMM experience.

If you have already applied to BIMM Institute, a member of our Admissions Team will have been in touch with you with detailed guidance on the next steps. We also have a local Freshers’ Facebook Group set up for each college location, which you can join at any time to connect with other applicants. These groups can be a great way to communicate with your future peers and also share advice and tips for preparing to take the next step into Higher Education.

During this time, we have initiated a series of online experiences and events to help you get the information you need to study at BIMM.

During our Virtual Open Day events, we give a presentation on all the key facts about BIMM Institute. We’ll look at our courses, teaching methods, tutors, graduate successes, employability, student services, as well as the city and culture of Berlin and Hamburg so you can gain a clear picture of life as a student.

The Virtual Open Day will be completely tailored to your needs, and you can engage in a Q&A session with our Admissions Team. You can ask about anything from student accommodation, fees, the application process or the logistics of applying for a study visa.

An audition or interview is required for entry to all BIMM Institute courses. Therefore, we have established remote auditions and interviews to make it as straightforward as possible for all applicants to continue their academic journey.

Our Admissions Team has contacted everyone with upcoming bookings to provide detailed information on this arrangement, as well as an update on how their application will be processed moving forward.

If you would like more information about booking a remote audition or interview, please contact our Admissions Team via email at, by phone on +49 30 311 99 186 or LiveChat on our website.

While our buildings are closed to the public, we are now offering tours for students. We are looking forward to welcoming our new students to BIMM in September 2020. Our Admissions Team are open as usual, on hand to give you all the support you need, and answer any questions you might have.
