Dirty Thrills rounded off 2015 with a bang, finishing up a live European tour as opening act for the mighty Europe.
The band were personally selected for the support slot by Europe’s lead singer, Joey Tempest, after hearing about the band in Classic Rock magazine and getting into their music.
Dirty Thrills are a rock four-piece who count three BIMM alumni amongst their members – Louis James, Jack Fawdry and Steve Corrigan. All three are graduates of BIMM London. Guitarist Jack and drummer Steve studied the BMus in Popular Music Performance, while frontman Louis studied the BTEC Performance in vocals.
After a hectic year the band had some definite Europe tour highlights to share:
“Our favourite show was Alcatraz in Milan. It was a packed venue, over 3500 people who absolutely loved us! They went crazy! We spoke to a lot of them after the shows. We gained a lot of loyal fans!”
While recovering from their tour and planning for the future, we asked Dirty Thrills what it was like to study at BIMM:
“The main plus of attending BIMM was that I was able to meet and work with all sorts of musicians, two of whom are now in Dirty Thrills with me. BIMM helped me realise what kind of vocalist I wanted to be. I learned a variety of styles and techniques and found some that suited me perfectly.”
“There were a couple of teachers at BIMM that really made a difference in my playing, and I will carry the lessons they taught with me throughout my career. I think to get the most out of the courses at BIMM, you must first ask yourself what it is you want to get out of it. I went in thinking I wanted a career as a session musician, and ended up coming out with an original band!”
“Moving to London and attending BIMM was a great decision. It enabled me to meet my friends and band members. I met Louis just before our first performance workshop together. Later on I played with him on stage with a blagged rendition of a Led Zeppelin song. I first spoke to Steve at the back of a Music Business lecture in second year and we eventually got to do our original stuff in our third year. I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
The band are signed to Ninelives UK Management and are currently in talks with major labels in UK and Europe so keep your ear to the ground for some new Dirty Thrills in 2016!
