Seventeen year old singer-songwriter Ellie Dibben already holds a diploma from BIMM Manchester and will shortly begin studying a degree there too. Ellie’s sophisticated and heartfelt country-meets-pop compositions belie her young age. Poignant and catchy songs such as ‘15’ are certainly not nostalgia – Ellie was actually 15 when she wrote and recorded the track!
Ellie’s growing talents, both recorded and on stage, are already being recognised in all the right places. On Saturday she was invited to perform as one of the support acts for Pixie Lott, the UK singer with three Number One singles and a Top Ten album under her belt. It proved a particularly special invite for Ellie who was already a huge fan of the singer.
The support gig happened at Warrington Bank Park before Pixie Lott’s headlining slot at this year’s Warrington Festival. The three support acts were X Factor’s Kiera Weathers, the upcoming indie-pop outfit Viola Beach and Ellie herself.
Ahead of her performance for Pixie, Ellie, who hails from the small town of Lymm, had already set about racking up a few other enviable support slots:
“It’s been a great year so far,” says Ellie. “I’ve supported The Shires, Union J, Luke Friend and so many other insanely talented artists. I can’t wait to see what is still to come!”
During a previous support slot for The South she even got song requests from the audience!
Ellie’s other gigs have included Country2Country at London’s O2, the Americana festival in Nottingham and London’s Underage Festival, all helping her to hone her stage craft. Way back in 2011 Ellie impressed the late Bee Gee Robin Gibb so much that he invited her to perform at a garden party at his house. We’re certain there are more seals of approval in Ellie’s future and we look forward to welcoming her back to BIMM Manchester to help guide her on her way.
