Night Of The Guitars in Berlin

On Friday 21st of August BIMM Berlin hosted ‘Night of the Guitars‘ in association with the iconic music brand Gibson. The event was a fun and competitive event held at Gibson’s Berlin Headquarters and open to the public. It featured two expert musicians in a uniquely entertaining and educational ‘Guitar vs Bass’ performance session.

Femi Temowo is an experienced guitar player who has worked with a host of music stars such as Amy Winehouse, George Benson, Courtney Pine and The Roots. Taking on bass duties for the evening was the talented Damon Minchella, famous for his work with Ocean Colour Scene, Paul Weller and The Who. Both musicians are also well respected BIMM tutors – Femi is a Guitar Tutor guitar at BIMM London while Damon takes on Bass Tutor and Live Performance Workshop duties at BIMM Bristol.

The Gibson ‘Night of the Guitars’ event took the form of a live masterclass including a range of individual performances, technical demonstrations and plenty of live stage jamming, all used to compare and contrast the complimentary styles of guitar and bass playing.

The guitarist and BIMM Brighton graduate Scott Booth opened the evening with a solo performance before Femi and Damon took to the stage to talk guitar and bass technique and style, as well as sharing their best tips on giving the best in your session and studio work, as well as their unique experiences working in the music industry for a number of years.

For the live performance Femi and Damon were joined by drummer Charlie Layton of The Wedding Present and Radio Flux. The trio were then joined by Scott Booth completing the line-up for some electric live jamming.

BIMM Berlin also held an exclusive competition for audience members to win an amazing Blackstar Amplifier. Frank Mandalka was the lucky winner but the entire audience left with great insights and awesome music ringing in their ears!
