Student Oli Ng of BIMM Manchester recently found himself on a mini-tour of Hong Kong, playing his guitar in concert with blues group, The Tom Seals Band.
Oli, who is currently a second year Music Business student, flew out to Hong Kong to perform three dates as part of the five-piece band, who are a best-selling UK Blues Chart act back home.
Oli explained to us how his overseas musical adventure came about:
“Tom Seals is a good friend of mine from my hometown of Crewe, and I was asked to play guitar for his band on a UK tour in October, which included places such as Matt & Phred’s in Manchester, and the legendary Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London. After that I was invited to join him for the run of dates in Hong Kong.”
It’s an exciting milestone to be able to travel the world as a professional working musician, and it’s an opportunity that Oli certainly relished, particularly as he has his own family connection with Hong Kong:
“It was an amazing experience for me, and Hong Kong is an amazing country. It’s always a pleasure to play with Tom as he is an incredible piano player and performer. It was great to be in Hong Kong as it’s where my Dad is from so it was an extra special reason for me to visit.”
With The Tom Seals Band tour now complete, Oli can concentrate on both his BIMM studies and his other musical projects, including his own forthcoming solo material.
“Coming up in 2016, I am writing a new solo EP with hopefully a tour to coincide, as well as continuing to work with both The Tom Seals Band and The Eyres.”
We’re very much looking forward to seeing where Oli’s music could take him next!
