Second year BIMM London Vocals student, Phoebe Ophelia has made her BBC Radio 1 debut on the Huw Stephens show with her fantastic new self-written single, ‘Beautiful Mess’. The talented singer-songwriter, who hails from Lincolnshire, took to social media to share the news: “Tonight is the night!!! My debut single “Beautiful Mess” will be played on BBC RADIO 1!”

And it appears that the 19-year-old rising star has made quite the impression too, as she was later asked to record a special live session for BBC Introducing Lincolnshire. Her local BBC has been championing Phoebe’s music for some time now and the radio session – a huge platform for any new artist – couldn’t have been more of a success.

“I uploaded this track, and then it just went a bit mad; local stations where I’m from in Boston, Lincolnshire started playing it, and then I got an email from BBC Introducing saying they were going to play it,” she said. “I received another email and another, and then they made it their “Track of the Week”, which meant it got played every day for a week on BBC Radio Lincolnshire.”

You can listen to the session, which aired early this month, here, as well as Huw Stephen’s October show with Haim. Phoebe has also received widespread support from a number of people and institutions. These include BIMM, where she met her producer, second year Production student Tord Fjermestad, and her band with whom she recorded in Lincolnshire.

Reflecting on her decision to study at BIMM London, Phoebe said:

“I applied to a few different BIMM campuses, but I kept being drawn back to London, it’s such a vibrant and fast-paced place, and I just thought with the course and such a cool city I’d really enjoy it, and I am!”

With a guitar in hand, Phoebe looks set for great things. She has been amassing plenty of acclaim from all directions of the industry and has impressed both students and tutors at BIMM.

As for 2018, the pop songstress is hard at work writing songs, and playing intimate gigs, which we’re sure will only increase following both fantastic opportunities. We can’t wait to see what’s next for Phoebe… watch this space!
