Student Success

R&B legend Alexander O’Neal has had a recent career resurgence after appearing in Celebrity Big Brother, gaining millions of viewers and a slew of news coverage in the process.

Alexander had huge chart success in the late 1980s with his smash-hit, ‘Criticize, and his TV appearance has renewed interest in his slick soul voice.

The renewed demand for his music means that he’s touring in the UK again, and talented BIMM Manchester student Romario Bryan has been asked to support Alexander on the Sheffield leg of his tour!

It’s fabulous recognition of Romario’s talent, and it means that the second year Vocals student will perform to his biggest audience yet, at Sheffield’s 2350-capacity O2 Academy on 12th February.

Romario is bound  to go down well with the Sheffield audience, as he too is in possession of a fantastic soul voice.

Romario can’t wait of course, saying: “I am super excited to have been given an opportunity like this. It’s a great chance to branch out to a new audience and will be the first time singing outside of Manchester by myself.

“I’m really nervous but I will make it the show of my life – it’s such an honour. Supporting Alexander O’Neal has given me the motivation to work even harder!”

First, there’s time for some practice before the big event, to make sure he’s at peak readiness for the Sheffield show. He has an upcoming gig alongside fellow BIMM students: with rock chick Kim Jennett and hotly-tipped hiphop maestros Akcadamy at Lock 91 on Deansgate on 27th January.

Romario is a great example of a student putting BIMM’s core beliefs into practice: hard work, perseverance and gaining plenty of good connections have all opened this window of opportunity for him, and we’re all convinced that he’s going to grab it with both hands!
