Sam Brockington at Music Week's RADAR Showcase

The BIMM Breaking slot at RADAR is a coveted performance slot, reserved for the most promising up-and-coming artists at BIMM who have the chance to open an evening of live music for an eager industry-connected audience at Under the Bridge in London’s Chelsea. RADAR is a regular event hosted by Music Week Magazine, ILUVLIVE and MusicConnex, committed to showing off the very best unsigned or newly-signed music acts in the UK.

Mel Thornton, BIMM’s Head of Music Industry and Careers, explains more:

The Music Week RADAR Showcase is a key event in BIMM’s artist development activity, along with our active festival programme, gigs, auditions and albums.  Each showcase features a ‘BIMM Breaking’ performance with an act from a different BIMM college represented each time.”

This month it was the turn of Sam Brockington of BIMM Bristol to perform some of his touching self-penned songs which flow smoothly between blues and folk influences. Sam’s had plenty of good practice on the live circuit in 2015, performing at Glastonbury, Leeds Festival, Y Not Festival, Bristol Harbour Festival and 2000trees, to name a few.

Mel Thornton was in the audience to enjoy Sam’s performance:

Sam’s unique old school voice and remarkable talent immediately drew the attention of the music industry audience. It’s easy to see how he’s winning over supporters from the BBC, festival bookers and music blogs in equal measure.”

Mark Bowers, Industry Liaison at BIMM Bristol, was also present and agreed with Mel’s appraisal:

The Music Week Radar show stands out as one of the best showcase events around. They provide a stage for new acts to show their talent but more importantly to meet the right industry people who can then help them to develop. Sam Brockington played with such confidence and really showed the quality he possesses.”

Sam himself told us what the RADAR event meant for him:

It was absolutely amazing to get the chance to play for probably the most respected industry magazine, Music Week, and in front of so many industry professionals. It was a real pleasure. The venue is state of the art with a brand new high-end sound system, in the heart of West London. We had a proper backstage area and the night ran really smoothly. We met some really interesting people and had the chance to network with some influential industry players.”
