It’s Monday, and that means it’s time for Track of the Week! Here’s BIMM Dublin’s Saoirse with ‘Strong.’
What was the inspiration behind your track?
The inspiration behind my track came from having quite a stubborn personality. It’s based on learning to accept my insecurities, and to not be afraid of relying on others in my times of need in order to move forward.
What did your songwriting process involve?
Melodies and lyrics always come first in my songwriting process, then the chords and general structure. The last piece of the puzzle is usually trying to hone sounds that fit well stylistically.
Can you describe your sound in three words?
Soul, Pop, Genuine
Have you channeled any artist in particular on this track?
I wouldn’t say any artist in particular, but I love Soul and Jazz so I feel like elements of those styles feed into my ideas without me even realising sometimes.
What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?
The people you meet. Your tutors and peers are invaluable when it comes to advice, constructive criticism, contacts and opportunities.
What’s the best bit of music advice you’ve been given?
That work ethic and attitude towards taking and creating opportunities for yourself is so important. Throw yourself in the deep end, and get involved in as much as you can because you will surprise yourself.
What’s next for you?
I just want to keep getting better at writing, and gig with my original material as much as possible!
