BIMM Manchester’s Connor Synnott is using his connections and entrepreneurial prowess to help fight the city’s homelessness problem.

On Friday 8 December, he will bring together some of Manchester’s most exciting new bands for a benefit gig at Salford’s Sacred Trinity Church with all proceeds going to the local charity, Lifeshare.

A Night with Gardenback for the Homeless will see performances from noise rock upstarts and fellow BIMM group, Psyblings; psych revivalists, Manalishi; the ultra-talented and experimental singer-songwriter, Alfie Sky; and Connor’s own band of hotly-tipped newcomers, Gardenback, whom he manages under his Elephant Management company.

Connor recently spoke to BIMM about his philanthropic endeavours and the troubling spate of homelessness, especially around Christmas time. It is an issue that’s close to the band – and The Sacred Trinity Church’s vicar Andy Salmon’s – hearts, as Conor explained:

“It just seemed like a pretty natural choice as homelessness has been on the increase in Manchester. Lifeshare tackles the problems within the area and provides help and support for those who need it most. For me, it’s around this time that you really reflect on what you take for granted and what you can do to help those in need.”

On his decision to host the event at the 16th-century church – which regularly hosts gigs, events and services for the community – Connor spoke of seeing another BIMM alumni group, Cabbage, at the church during the Salford Music Festival:

“The look and sound of the Sacred Trinity Church really stuck with me, and I just knew I wanted to do a gig there one day. Churches are great places for gigs as the sound quality and acoustics blow you away; not to mention the beautiful backdrop of a stained glass window.”

Connor, who hails from Accrington via Northampton, has organised this event off his own back but is open to support from anyone who can help out.

Connor’s hard work and selfless nature are heart-warming and inspiring; his desire to combat homelessness with music is something we are 100% behind at BIMM.
