It’s Monday, and it’s time again for our Track of the Week! This week it’s BIMM Bristol’s The DLX with their latest single ‘How Ya Feelin’?’ – enjoy.
What inspired you when writing this track?
In terms of the instrumental, I suppose it was just the music we were listening to at the time, which I guess was ‘bouncy’ rock tunes from the 90s. Lyrically, it’s sort of about doing what you wanna do whether people like that or not – but make what you will of it.
Were there any particular music influences while you were writing?
A bit of everything really, as we’re all into different stuff. But when we come together I guess it’s like rock vibes and decent guitar music. But no-one in particular as we’re just doing us.
Is there anything you do to try and make your music stand out?
Yeah, just playing what we wanna hear and not thinking about what other people wanna hear. If we thought like that, we’d just sound like one of the thousands of indie bands that are about today all sounding like they’re the same artist.
How does your songwriting process work?
We start off with a guitar idea or something then we jam it out for a while and over a few weeks it sort of merges together into something. Then we’ll demo it and start writing the lyrics, etc. Eventually, when we’ve got the skeleton, it’ll come together and we’ll have a tune we’re happy with and progress it from there.

How has studying at BIMM helped you develop as an artist?
I guess BIMM has helped a lot with the development of the band and bringing all the ingredients together as a whole. It made me realise it’s not just about the music; it’s mainly about everything else once you’ve got the tunes.
What’s your favourite thing about studying at BIMM?
The opportunities and connections.
Anything exciting coming up you can share?
There are some big tunes in the pipeline, a decent gig on 15th March at the Louisiana with BIMM students The Edit and Finlay Dawes and we’re talking to some lovely people, so yeah somethings definitely brewing for sure.
