The Haydn Funk Project are a phenomenal Manchester live act – in fact we like them so much that we invited them to perform at several BIMM Open Days, and at last year’s BIMM Manchester induction ceremony in front of DJ Mike Pickering and Smiths drummer Mike Joyce, as well as the induction party at Club Academy later that evening, welcoming students to the start of the semester.
It looks like we have great taste as The Haydn Funk Project have just taken home first prize in the Manchester edition of the Greene King ‘Battle Of The Bands’ competition which took place at The Royal Oak pub in Chorlton-cum-Hardy last week.
It’s always a special feeling to win a prize for your music, but this was no ordinary ‘Battle of the Bands’ as The Haydn Funk Project were awarded an impressive £2500 cash prize, and – perhaps even more exciting – a 10 date live tour (and a crate of beer too!).
Band members Lizzy, Alan, Jack, Wez and Alex scooped the prize after competing against three other talented Manchester acts – Common Tree Frogs, The Hymek Manoeuvre and The Revers:
“The competition was tough with a real electric mix of styles. We brought our usual funk and hip-hop antics to close the night and by a combination of crowd vote and judge’s panel we were amazed to find we’d won!”
The cash prize will be put to good use, helping to finance the band’s first proper recordings which they plan to release as a series of EPs. The 10 date tour will see the band play at Greene King venues all across the North West, so be sure to try and catch them in your neighbourhood. The dates will be announced soon on the band’s Facebook page.
“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our amazing fans who have supported us this far. We promise to use this amazing opportunity to crank up the funk levels even higher!”
