There are few nights on the music industry calendar bigger than Music Week’s RADAR.
The London event aims to showcase talented and upcoming artists and attracts some of the biggest names in the business, from record label executives to A&R staff looking for the rising stars of tomorrow.
Our ‘BIMM Breaking’ slots feature musicians and bands from all of our BIMM colleges. Our acts, made up of both students and BIMM alumni never fail to create a huge buzz around the room and regularly set tongues wagging.
Now it’s the turn of another BIMM group to wow the RADAR crowd. On November 26, one of BIMM Brighton’s most promising new bands, The Island Club, will play Chelsea’s exclusive Under the Bridge venue.
The group, which consists of Michael Askew (songwriting), Julien Forsythe-Lewis (guitar), Sam Cantlon (drums) and David Blowers (bass), formed in late 2014. The five-piece are quickly making a name for themselves with their dance infused pop sound, which plays homage to the current psychedelic revival, with nods to Peace, Tame Impala and Nile Rodgers.
Speaking about the band’s varied musical influences, the group’s drummer, Sam, told BIMM: “We all had our own projects which spread between styles of rock, indie and funk. And of course, being spread across the country with varying music scenes, it meant a lot of our influence was very different but we could all link to a few bands who we all loved and still do.”
On the subject of their upcoming RADAR gig, he added: “We’re extremely grateful to all the RADAR panel for selecting us, there are some incredible bands playing on the night and we couldn’t be happier to be a part of the line up!”
The news that the band will be playing the industry event comes ahead of their debut single ‘Paper Kiss’, which is due for release this month alongside the b-side, ‘Sober’ and can be heard here.
The track is due for release on the 20th November and can be pre-ordered from iTunes, now.
