Nearly a quarter of a century after debuting on British TV, Later… With Jools Holland is a real institution. Watched religiously by an enormous loyal fanbase in the UK and all over the world, Later… is the benchmark by which all live TV performances are measured, and a real validation of a performer’s ability.

So it’s always really satisfying to see BIMM students pop up on such an important show. And while we’ve seen a few of our BIMM students appear on …Later over the years, tuning in to see three of them perform in a month must be a new record!

First, BIMM London graduate Isabel Torres appeared with the award-winning Declan McKenna, a songwriter who demands an exceptional band to perform his complex and provocative songs. Isabel played the driving, ear-catching guitar part for Declan, and looked every inch like the star guitarist that she developed into during her time at BIMM.

Isabel’s appearance was quickly followed by that of four BIMM Dublin students. Theodora Byrne, Joe Furlong and Ciara O’Connor have dived straight into the world of professional musicianship, hardly having time to unpack their bags since finishing their studies at BIMM before rushing off to London — also to appear on Jools show. And, current student Alannah Hewitt also joined them for the performance.

All four were eye-catching performers in James Vincent McMorrow’s band as he promoted his third album, We Move, with a spellbinding set on …Later.

The Irish singer-songwriter slowed down proceedings with his soulful, R’n’B-hued new single, Rising Water, and Theodora (on keys and backing vocals) and Joe (on bass) performed flawlessly for a combined audience of millions, their rock-solid playing providing the ideal template for James to showcase his new songs.

Theodora, Joe and Ciara finished their studies at BIMM Dublin in May and are due to graduate in November – we hope they are not too busy performing to come and collect their degrees in person! And we wish Alannah the best of luck in her final year!

James Vincent McMorrow and Declan McKenna are two artists who are turning heads with their innovative spins on what it is to be a singer/songwriter – and their music requires close work with professional musicians who can perform first time, every time. So of course, everyone at BIMM is incredibly impressed with how Isabel, Theodora, Joe, Ciara and Alannah have proven themselves in the real world of live performance – well done, to you all!
