BIMM Dublin graduates Vernon Jane have recently signed a distribution deal with Chinese record label Pocket Records. China holds a great deal of untapped potential for bands seeking to broaden their reach overseas and with the increase in people using online streaming sites, the music market in China is growing fast.
The deal comes at an exciting time for Vernon Jane. Their music video for their latest single, “F*ck Me”, created by the band’s sax player Sean Cunningham, otherwise known as Paperbag Animator, hit 30k views within weeks of its release and is now at an impressive 74k and counting. The band then played a sold-out show at Whelan’s for the single’s launch – an amazing feat for an unsigned independent act.
Speaking to band leader Emily Jane about the deal she said, “We love to do live shows, and a distribution deal like this means our music is reaching people we just couldn’t before. It opens the door for us to a new music world and an audience that we would love to visit and play for!”
The band met on the BA in Commercial Modern Music at BIMM Dublin. While honing their skills in their respective streams during their studies, they came together to form Vernon Jane and have come a long way since.
As far as their future is concerned, the band are planning to take it as it comes. They’re currently rehearsing in preparation to enter the studio for an upcoming release in 2018 and the 9-piece outfit will soon be supporting fellow graduates Akora at The Workman’s Club.
In the meantime, the band are still coming to terms with their recent success. “It’s a funny thing to wrap our heads around. It happened very quickly, but we’ve been working towards it for a long time… We love what we do, and are more determined now than ever to keep moving forward and test our own boundaries. We are so thankful for the opportunity and for all the help, support and belief from people along our way. “
We couldn’t be happier for Vernon Jane and look forward to seeing what the future holds for them!
