Why Study at BIMM in Birmingham?

Student Experience

Music is at Birmingham’s core and since we opened our doors in 2016, we’ve loved every moment of being part of this iconic music scene.

But what makes BIMM Birmingham the perfect place to develop your music industry career? We take a look…

The History
During the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s, Birmingham was part of the fabric of modern music, with bands and artists like The Move, Electric Light Orchestra, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Moody Blues, Joan Armatrading, Steve Winwood, Fine Young Cannibals, UB40 and Duran Duran all making a name for themselves on the world stage and putting the city firmly on the musical map.

There’s a music venue for everyone in Birmingham, from small and intimate in the likes of The Sunflower Lounge, all the way through to big venues like the O2 Academy or NEC. If you want a guide to some of the best places to get your music fix, Music Journalist and Brum Radio presenter Danny de Reybekill shared with us his 5 STAPLES of the Birmingham music scene, which you can watch below.

BIMM Birmingham is situated in one of the city’s creative hubs, Digbeth. Our neighbours even include the O2 Institute and the iconic custard factory!
Our state-of-the-art facilities include fully-loaded Mac suites, multiple performance rooms with industry standard equipment and not forgetting our amazing brand-new recording studio!

What our students say…

The city as a whole is really diverse and I think that’s reflected in the music created here. Whatever you like, there’s a scene for it. The geographical location of Birmingham is really important to me, as I can pretty much get anywhere within a couple of hours travel. The fact that there’s so much investment going into the city too is really encouraging. I think it shows that we’re heading in the right direction and people are starting to see the city as a rival to the likes of London or Manchester.” – Jack Trubshaw – BA (Hons) Music Production
