At BIMM Manchester, we offer a selection of highly vocational, real-world Diploma courses that are FREE to UK and EU school leavers aged 18 and under. Performers and songwriters can choose from the Artist Development Diploma in Modern Music
(GuitarBassDrumsVocals or Songwriting), and producers can study the Diploma in Live Sound and Tour Management.

Not only do these Diplomas provide you with a solid foundation of musical knowledge and technique, but they also teach you all you need to know about the reality of the music industry, while at the same time connecting you directly to it.

BIMM’s unique form of industry networking is all about collaboration. We connect our Diploma students to regular music business experiences, including Masterclasses hosted by internationally renowned guest artists, end-of-term gigs, A&R panels, the annual BIMM album, and participation in our summer festival work experience scheme which sees students of all levels and disciplines set-up, run and perform at these events.

We also have a dedicated career planning and support programme which provides you with ongoing engagement with the industry in the form of work placements, internships, CV advice, job hunting and more.

Our Diplomas are a flexible next step to the music industry, allowing you to either make your way straight into the music business or to continue on with your studies. 81% of our graduates are employed within six months of leaving BIMM, and of those, 64% are working directly in the music industry in roles such as performer, music business executive, producer, teacher and more. But if further study is on the agenda, Diplomas are a fantastic alternative route into Higher Education and the perfect gateway to a music degree at BIMM Manchester.

One recent BIMM Manchester Diploma student who has landed a top career in the music industry even before graduation is seventeen year old singer-songwriter Charlotte Cannon who made her debut live performance at Manchester’s Ruby Lounge at the end of last year. Since then she has received BBC radio airplay, featured on the BIMM Album, gigged in front of EMI/Virgin, performed in Amsterdam and recorded with producer Bill Ryder-Jones (The Coral).

And there’s Live Sound and Tour Management Diploma student, Georgia Welsby, who’s been getting loads of valuable industry experience by working at Liverpool Sound City and helping out with all our end-of-term gigs here at BIMM Manchester.

And Kieran McMahon who has vowed to play ’24 gigs in 24 hours’ for charity. And let’s not forget seventeen year old Songwriting student Josh Taylor who among many other things has built this fanbase to almost 102,000 on Twitter.

So… what does all this tell you? It shows that a Diploma from BIMM Manchester really does connect you to both the workforce and the music business… and that connectivity is the key to music industry success.

If a career in the music industry is what you’re striving for, then there’s no better place to study than BIMM. Our Diplomas are the equivalent of two A-levels and will gain you a nationally recognised BTEC qualification upon completion.
