With a decade of industry experience to her name, Zoe Martin has plenty of wisdom and techniques to offer her students at BIMM Brighton, where she works as the Head of Live Sound. As a professional Front Of House and Monitor Engineer, Zoe has looked after live sound for diverse musical acts like Bonobo, Maverick Sabre, James Arthur, UB40, Radiophonic Workshop and Ratatat, including world tours.
Zoe herself studied as a Live Sound student at BIMM Brighton and began her music career by working in various Brighton venues as an in-house sound engineer. After ten years in the industry, Zoe’s skill and experience has been officially recognised with her recent exciting nomination for the annual Pro Sound Award.
Zoe, together with nine of her professional peers, has been nominated for the award which seeks to recognise and honour the year’s ‘biggest upcoming star of the pro-audio world.’ In an interview with Audio Media International – the body that presents the awards – Zoe shares some of her career highlights to date, including her first gig at Brighton’s Concorde 2, organised by her BIMM tutor.
Zoe also fondly recalls the year-long Live Sound course that she attended at BIMM Brighton, which was then in its very first year. That course is now our Diploma in Live Sound and Tour Management and we’re very proud that it has the highest levels of progression into real industry careers of any course offered at BIMM. The entry-level diploma is the equivalent of two ‘A’ Levels, and is many people’s first step on a path to a rewarding and exciting career in live music.
We’re all wishing the very best of luck to Zoe for her nomination, and if you’re applying for a Live Sound Diploma then the very best of luck to you too, we hope to see you soon!
