BIMM London graduate Izzy Bizu is yet another example of one of our ex-students using all the knowledge and connections they gained at BIMM and wasting no time getting their music career up and running.
It’s testimony to her raw talent and determination that Izzy has ticked off a number of career goals in such a short space of time.
Her rapid ascent began when she won the ILUVLIVE Open Mic in February 2013 — impressing a crowd of fans and professionals, including Emeli Sande and Naughty Boy. ILUVLIVE were so impressed that their label released her debut EP, which hit #3 on the iTunes Soul and RnB Chart.
BBC Introducing were the next to back her, playing her music all across the biggest daytime BBC Radio 1 and BBC 1Xtra shows.
The massive audiences of Fearne Cotton, Trevor Nelson, and Sarah Jane Crawford’s shows were all introduced to her fabulous voice, with famed tastemaker Zane Lowe even making her song ‘White Tiger’ his “Next Hype” track.
An accomplished live performer, she’s supported superstar Sam Smith as well as Milky Chance, and Jamie Cullum personally chose her to open for him at his huge Roundhouse show in London.
After all this success, it was inevitable that Izzy would sign a worldwide record contract — and she struck a deal with the huge Epic Records in August 2014.
2015 brought with it even more success for Izzy; a performance on Jools Holland and supporting slots for both Rudimental and Foxes on their UK tours.
On top of this, the singer was shortlisted for the Brits Critics’ Choice Award, narrowly missing out to BIMM Brighton graduate James Bay!
2016 has already seen her lend her considerable talents to the theme for the BBC’s coverage of Euro 2016, with an incredible rendition of Edith Piaf’s ‘La Foule’.
She’s now recording her debut album, due out this year, so watch out for Izzy — it feels like she might be another huge BIMM star in the making!
