Josh Hammond

Session Musician

Since graduating from BIMM in 2011, Josh Hammond has worked as a session bassist for upcoming singer-songwriters such as Tom Craven and Sean Stewart. Most recently, Josh performed bass guitar duties for the Circus Of Horrors, touring the UK as part of their continuing success on the road.

In 2012, Josh joined UK metalcore act, Rise to Remain for their second headline tour.  Signed to EMI Records and Century Media Records worldwide, the band featured the vocal talents of Austin Dickinson; son of Iron Maiden frontman, Bruce Dickinson. Touring with the band saw Josh share stages with other established acts such as Heaven Shall Burn, Bullet For My Valentine, Iron Maiden, Funeral For A Friend, Adept, Malefice and Cytota.

Josh also played bass for the band Aurora, who were signed to In At The Deep End Records and released a debut album “Faith/Breaker” in 2015.

In addition to the above, Josh also finds time to tutor aspiring musicians through one-to-one and group lessons at the Teach Me Music Academy in Kidderminster. Delivering 1-to-1 lessons for students wishing to learn guitar, bass, and keyboards for leisure and including preparation for Trinity College London graded exams. Josh is also the group coordinator for various instrumental clubs and Home Education groups, focusing on students with mild learning difficulties by delivering rock band workshops whilst embedding English, maths, and social skills.

Josh has some choice advice for anyone looking to follow in his footsteps in the session industry.

The most important lesson I learned from BIMM, was that you should not expect anyone to hand you anything on a plate. If you know what you want, go out there and get it. There will be hard times, but keep a cool head and persevere. One of my favourite quotes comes to mind, by Jonny Wilkinson, and he says – “the harder I work, the more likely I am to succeed”. And of course, enjoy what you do, above all else!”

Josh is also available for live and studio bass sessions – [email protected]
