A former high school chemistry teacher, physics graduate and web developer, Chad took leave from the academic and corporate worlds to spend the better part of the past 15 years recording dozens of albums and EPs and performing hundreds of concerts across the world.
He’s shared the bill with luminaries like Sebadoh, Nada Surf, Thurston Moore, Sun Kil Moon, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, The Hotelier, The Hold Steady, and John Vanderslice. Chad has helmed countless recording, mixing and mastering projects as an engineer, and has managed live sound in a variety of contexts – from large venues and podcasts to live community radio. His music project Emperor X had a track featured on the soundtrack to the 2014 Warner Bros. feature film Veronica Mars.
Chad lives in Berlin where he spends his time composing, teaching and operating Donau115 – a small experimental jazz venue in Neukölln which The Guardian listed as one of the best jazz clubs in Europe. He also volunteers as a music technology instructor in a programme run by the UN-recognised NGO ‘Give Something Back to Berlin’ – an organisation which focuses on supporting migrants from Syria, Afghanistan, Sudan, Iraq and beyond.
