Preston is the frontman and main songwriter for Worthing band The Ordinary Boys, who formed in 2003 and toured the world, supporting artists including Morrissey, Paul Weller and The Who, and performing on Later… With Jools Holland and Blue Peter, as well as Top of the Pops five times.
Over the years, The Ordinary Boys had seven UK Top 40 singles, with their song ‘Boys Will Be Boys’ reaching No.2 in the charts and featuring in the movie Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Their debut album ‘Over the Counter Culture’ reached No.1 in Japan.
Outside of the band, Preston has established himself as a successful cross-genre songwriter, collaborating in the UK and US with some of the world’s most eminent artists and producers, including Olly Murs, Enrique Iglesias, Cher, Example, John Newman, Nas, Lucy Spraggan, Nina Nesbitt and The Vamps. He co-wrote the platinum-selling UK No.1 single ‘Heart Skips a Beat’ for Olly Murs which also features Brighton band Rizzle Kicks.
Preston has a degree in Music and Visual Arts from Brighton University and has undertaken a Logic Mixing and Mastering Course at the London School of Sound. He comes from a family of teachers and academics, and he’s excited to be tutoring aspiring songwriters at BIMM and helping them to nurture their natural songwriting voice.
