Luke Cawthra

Music Production Module Leader/Lecturer

Luke is primarily a guitarist and studio producer/engineer, and has been an active touring musician for over 20 years. He is also a composer and co-writer. Luke currently runs Alma Vale Studio in Bristol and is a composer, instrumentalist and producer for Bristol-based instrumental psych band The Brackish.

Luke has produced albums and EPs for The Blue Aeroplanes, Beth Porter, Emily Breeze, Howling Lord, Kate McGill and many other solo artists and bands. He also records compositions under his own name using classical orchestrations and experimental, unorthodox recording techniques.

Luke was a member of Bristol country soul band Phantom Limb. The band toured extensively throughout Europe and the UK, sharing the stage with the likes of Solomon Burke, Candi Staton, Dr. John, Steve Cropper, Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn and Eddie Floyd.

As a producer and studio engineer Luke is well versed in the whole process of making records, specialising in getting great sounds at source, using the studio creatively and aspiring to make music sound as authentic, interesting and vibrant as possible.
