Steve Trafford

Course Leader, Songwriting

Songwriting Course Leader Steve Trafford is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and composer. He is also guitarist/co-writer with Brix & The Extricated as well as the singer-songwriter in Manchester duo Rubberbear with Tom Chapman (New Order).

Steve’s list of credits is as quirky as his singing and songwriting style. He played bass and guitar in The Fall, touring the world with them and contributing material for two albums – notably the acclaimed ‘Fall Heads Roll’ recorded at Philip Glass’s studio in New York.

As well as performing on Later with Jools Holland, Steve has recorded numerous John Peel Sessions and appeared in The Fall documentary for the BBC. (Heads Roll/Interim/Peel sessions)

He has worked with many other artists and bands, including Paul Heaton (The Housemartins, The Beautiful South) on his Cross Eyed Rambler album and with Cerys Matthews (Catatonia). He has also released material under his own name and a plethora of pseudonyms and obscure band names.

Steve was commissioned to write music for three independent films which toured around Europe, and he has contributed to the score of the Manchester film ‘Hi High Rise’ shown at major film festivals around the country.
