Music Theory Tutor

Derek is a composer, arranger, producer and performer with over 20 years’ experience in the industry. As a keyboardist and pianist, Derek has recorded, toured and performed with acts like Donovan, The Commitments, Juliet Turner, the Dublin City Jazz Orchestra, Brian Kennedy, Westlife, the Wolfe Tones and In Tua Nua. His orchestrations, arrangements and compositions for companies including the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Enterprise Ireland, Tourism Ireland and every national TV broadcaster in Ireland, have been performed by orchestras all over Europe and the US.

Derek’s arrangements for the RTE Concert Orchestra have been chosen to represent Ireland for both Big Music Week in 2012, and Ireland Culture Night in 2014. He was recently commissioned by the UCD Symphony Orchestra to re-orchestrate the entirety of ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ for full orchestra and band. He’s currently the Musical Director for acclaimed Irish vocalist Jack Lukeman and was responsible for the arrangement of his hit live album ‘The 27 Club’. Derek has extensive lecturing experience to Masters level in numerous institutions, and writes about music technology on his blog ‘Moanin’ Cronin’.
