Frontman - The Academic
Former BIMM Music Institute Dublin songwriting student, Craig Fitzgerald, is the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and chief songwriter for band The Academic. His band has supported the likes of Pixies, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and Kodaline, performing at various festivals throughout Europe.
In 2015 the band performed at both Y Not Festival, Indiependence Festival, at British Summer Time in Hyde Park, on the XFM stage at the Great Escape, at Boardmasters Festival in Cornwall and Reeperbahn Festival in Germany.
The band’s song ‘Different’ was featured on Spotify’s ‘New Music Monday’ playlist, reaching no. 9 on the Irish Radio Airplay Chart, while previous release ‘Bear Claws’ was featured as RTE 2FM’s Song Of The Week. The band has also enjoyed airplay on XFM and BBC Radio 1.
Their debut studio album, Tales From The Backseat, was released in January 2018, entering the Irish Album Charts at no.1. The album was nominated for Album of the Year at the Choice Music Prize in January 2019. In 2020, the band signed to Capitol Records and are recording their follow-up album.
