BIMM Dublin tutor honoured at Trinity College

28 September, 2018

BIMM Dublin Songwriting tutor Mick Tierney – lead singer, songwriter and guitar player of Irish funk rockers Republic of Loose –  recently had the prestigious honour of receiving the ‘Gold Medal of Honorary Patronage’ from the Philosophical Society at Trinity College, Dublin.

The award is given to exceptional individuals who have excelled in their given fields, with previous recipients of the award including former Vice President Joe Biden, Professor Brian Cox, Al Pacino, Conan O’Brien, Dame Helen Mirren, Whoopi Goldberg and Martin Scorsese among others.

Tierney (AKA Mik Pyro) received the award along with fellow Republic Of Loose band mates Brez, Dave Pyro, Deco Quinn, Benjamin Loose, Coz Nolean and Andre Antunes during a ceremony which took place in the Chamber of the Graduates Memorial Building in the centre of the city.

Following the award, Mick and the rest of the band also took part in a Q&A, which marked the first public appearance of the original band line up in over a decade.

We’re so pleased for Mick and the band for this recognition of their outstanding achievements throughout their career and wish them all continued success.
