Britpop brought many British alternative rock and indie bands into the mainstream and formed the backbone of a larger cultural movement which became known as Cool Britannia.
Sleeper, My Life Story, The Bluetones, Dodgy, Space and Salad are six of the bands from this scene who have come together for this series of gigs.
Jake, Jon and Andy are all taking advantage of the summer break to get back out on tour and both bands have already sold out a warm up show at The Haunt in Brighton.
Jake is the singer/songwriter of My Life Story, who made records with Morrissey and Marc Almond and had six top forty singles in the 90s. MLS continue to perform with a more New Wave focused line-up. They released their first single in 16 years last October – ‘24 Hour Deflowerer‘.
Jake said: “Releasing 24 hour Deflowerer, opened up new opportunities for us and we’ve been performing to new audiences and composing new material, this tour is a chance to reconnect with our devoted and loyal fans and catch up with some of the great friends we made during the era. I’m sure there’ll be as much drama in the backstage dressing rooms as on the stage.”
Jon and Andy were guitarist and drummer of the band, Sleeper, who had three UK Top 5 albums and nine Top 40 singles during the Britpop era. The band reformed earlier this year and have not performed together for 19 years.
Andy said: “It has been an amazing experience reforming Sleeper after a huge gap. Jon and I have had to put into practice the advice we have been dishing out to our students for the last ten years! It’s been a lot of hard work but also incredibly good fun. We are just about ready to perform these great songs again, with a former BIMM student helping out on keyboards. Everyone is looking forward to the tour, and we have already booked our own headline show at The Shepherd’s Bush Empire on Saturday 2 December 2017 for anyone who can’t make these dates.”

- Birmingham, O2 Institute (Saturday, July 29)

- Glasgow, O2 ABC (Saturday, August 12)
