BIMM’S BRITS CONNECTION

Industry news

We’re a little overwhelmed by all of BIMM’s links to the BRIT Awards this year.

First, we were overjoyed back in December 2014 when we heard that the incredibly talented James Bay — an ex-BIMM Brighton student — had impressed a panel of industry tastemakers and was named winner of the BRITs Critics’ Choice award.

We’d hardly had enough time to let that sink in before the BRITs announced their full list of award nominations, and we discovered that George Ezra was the recipient of a whopping four BRIT Award nominations too!

Not only is George on the shortlist for the British Breakthrough Act and British Male Solo Artist awards, but his album ‘Wanted On Voyage’ is nominated for British Album Of The Year, and ‘Budapest’ for British Single — and he’ll be performing at the ceremony itself too!

Moreover, we had a BRIT nominee visit BIMM Dublin just this week, when Best International Artist nominee Hozier surprised the life out of the Dublin students with a secret masterclass.

One more BIMM connection of note: super-producer Flood, who works with megastars like U2 and PJ Harvey, is nominated for the British Producer BRIT, and does lots of his work at 140dB Studios, who funded one of BIMM’s Music Production scholarships.

Perhaps we shouldn’t be too surprised by all these BRITs: BIMM Brighton alumni Tom Odell won the Critics’ Choice BRIT in 2013 and The Kooks were nominated for Best Single in 2007.

BIMM prides itself on forging strong and close relationships with the people that matter in the UK music industry, and helps each student to become as connected as they possibly can be.

James and George’s nominations, and that of our guests and partners, is clear proof that we’re on the right track — and that BIMM is the best place in Europe to get a modern music education.
