BIMM’S NISH SUPPORTS SEX PISTOLS’ LEGEND

It’s not every day you get to meet one of your musical heroes, let alone open for them on stage! So you can only imagine BIMM student Nish Goyal’s reaction at being asked to support Sex Pistols founding member, Glen Matlock at The Deaf Institute in Manchester.

Armed with an acoustic guitar, Nish – who studies Songwriting at BIMM Manchester – blends elements of punk, folk and indie with witty lyrics about his traditional Indian upbringing, modern life and being angry. He received the call-up from Damian Morgan, BIMM Manchester’s Head of Careers Industry, as Damian explained:

“Ade Dovey (BIMM alumni) at Manchester’s Deaf Institute asked me for a suitable support for Glen Matlock, and Nish immediately came to mind. He has the perfect mix of lyrical spit and vocal punch to complement a set by a punk pioneer like Glen.”

Naturally, Nish – a huge Sex Pistols fan – jumped at the chance to support one of a punk rock legend. Matlock co-authored ten songs on the Pistols’ legendary debut, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols – including Anarchy in the UK and God Save the Queen. Nish told BIMM:

“I’d listen to Never Mind the Bollocks as a kid in school and never dreamed I’d ever get to meet – never mind support – Glen Matlock! A massive, massive thanks to BIMM Manchester.”

The gig itself was a huge success! Nish’s set went down a storm, and Glen Matlock was also in fine tune – playing a selection of tracks from his extensive back catalogue.

Nish has been gigging around the UK for some time now and is well-known throughout the North West. He can often be found playing in Liverpool’s famed Cavern Club, as well as performing at open mic nights around Manchester and London.

The singer-songwriter recently embarked on his first ever tour of America with a string of shows around the US, including New York. Nish’s extensive touring schedule has also included a series of summer festivals, like Chester Live Fest and 2000 Trees.

During that time, he’s still found a chance to work on his debut album which follows 2015’s The Rage EP. You’ll find Nish’s music and all upcoming tour dates here. His brand new track Dry Grass is available on iTunes, Spotify and Amazon now.
