We always make sure BIMM graduation days are special occasions, but for BIMM Dublin’s first ever graduation ceremony we needed to go that extra mile with a very important guest. The Sugar Club on Lower Leeson Street was the location and the special guest was none other than Dún Laoghaire’s own local star Mr Bob Geldof!

The presence of this well-loved, musician, activist and hero ensured that our first graduating class from BIMM Dublin knew how proud we were of their achievements. Sir Bob Geldof has been a friend and supporter of BIMM Dublin since we opened in 2010 and we were very touched that he agreed to fly over from England especially for the graduation.

A warm welcome awaited the graduating class of over one hundred students and their families, who were able to mix, meet and mingle ahead of the ceremony. Alan Cullivan, Principal of BIMM Dublin, gave an opening speech, followed by more words of praise and thanks from Executive Principal, Dara Kilkenny.

Evidence of the abundant talent at BIMM Dublin came with fantastic live performances from Leila Keeney, our present Imelda May scholarship student, and from final year student, Jordan Onubogu.

After more words from graduate student Steve McCann, and from our Vocal Tutor, Head of Education and star of JJ72, Mark Greaney, it was Bob Geldof’s turn to take the stage. Bob shared some of his own experiences in the music world with the class of 2015 and urged the new graduates to always remember the importance of attitude and passion in their work.

When it came time to hand out the awards, Mark Greaney summoned the students, who were greeted by Alan Cullivan and given their scrolls by Dara Kilkenny. They finally received a congratulatory handshake and specially commissioned BIMM logo pin from Bob Geldof.

No time was wasted in getting the post-ceremony celebrations underway, with two awesome numbers from the band Thumper. The ceremony received local news interest too, ensuring our first ever batch of Dublin graduates made their mark as they set out on the next stage of their careers. We can’t wait to see what they will do next!
