RADAR is the regular Music Week industry event that showcases new music in a cool capital venue for an audience of music fans and industry experts. Each party opens with a performance by a specially selected ‘BIMM Breaking Band’ and at last month’s party the chosen band was live favourite Duke Mercury of BIMM Manchester.

The guitar-and-drums twosome wasted no time in kick-starting the party at the Under the Bridge venue in London with a raucous and shirtless airing of their raw rock ‘n’ roll sound, including their songs ‘Itchy’ and BIMM favourite ‘Let’s Build a Den’.

The audience were instantly won over by the catchy and eclectic Duke Mercury sound, shot through with wry humour and a buzzing level of energy, with detectable musical influences ranging from punk to Biffy Clyro, Nirvana to The White Stripes. There were definitely new fans for the band in the audience that night!

Before they took to the stage, the band were interviewed by BIMM TV and the BIMM Youtube Channel, discussing their Life in Music and their experiences as BIMM students. Keep an eye on the BIMM YouTube Channel to see the results.

Louis Brown of Island Records spoke about the value of the RADAR events for BIMM bands and for the industry:

“Coming to these events is invaluable for us and fantastic for the new artists as well… The bands get the opportunity to play in the capital of the UK in front of lots of different members of the industry… They get to play on a great stage with great sound… Not every unsigned band gets the opportunity to do these kind of gigs.

“It’s really important for BIMM to be involved in these kinds of events because it brings them closer to the industry, and it’s important for colleges like BIMM to work as closely as possible with the industry because things change really quickly…

It’s fantastic for us at Island to be able to see new music first… because ultimately that’s how we are going to find and discover new music.”
