Monday is here again, and we’ve got a brand new Track of the Week to share with you all! Here’s the brilliant Elena from BIMM Bristol with ‘Stuck on Repeat’
What was the inspiration behind your track?
I’m really inspired by soulful ballad vocals and upbeat pop hits, so I wanted to create something that emulated all of that – vulnerable vocals with a charged beat.
What did your songwriting process involve?
I began writing with BIMM alumni songwriter and producer Anders, who wanted to start working hands-on with an artist and we just clicked. He immediately understood who I was as an artist and I totally respected his immense talent and love for writing. We hung together so that we could get to know each other well, then went away and started working on our parts. Then we started pre-production, adding bits and bobs to what had already been created and recording as we went. The whole thing was recorded between fits of laughter in his bedroom cupboard!
What things do you do differently to other bands?
Well, I’ve always wanted to be a solo artist – but I’m not sure what I do differently, really. I don’t think its about being different, I think it’s about being your authentic self.
Can you describe your sound in three words?
Heartfelt, fun, fresh.
Have you channeled any artist in particular on this track?
I’m hugely inspired by massive pop artists like Ariana Grande. I’m also a die hard JoJo fan – so probably them.
What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?
The inspiring students!
What’s the best bit of music advice you’ve been given?
Be a dark horse.
What’s next for you?
We have plans in place to record a handful of singles over the next year. I also would love to get a full band together in the new year and go out and do some great live shows. So that, lots more writing and hopefully staying busy! (Also my dissertation!)
