2017 has been an amazing year for Vocals student Erica Cody – we know she’s going to go from strength to strength in 2018. We caught up with her…
Can you give us a little overview of what you’ve been up to recently?
So recently I’ve been writing and working on my debut EP which is set to be released in the spring, and my next single will be released in January. Also, I’m heading on tour with Mahalia from the UK which I’m really excited about – we’re hitting Dublin, Cork, Limerick, and Galway, and started with a sold out show at Whelan’s!
Have there been any standout moments for you over the past year?
Most definitely. My first stand out moment would be when I opened for En Vogue back in March in Vicar Street. My second would have to be the Electric Picnic with the RTE concert orchestra, doing the story of hip hop for 14,000 people – bucket list TICK.
Electric Picnic looked amazing, what was it like performing with the RTE Concert Orchestra and to that many people?
It was such a surreal moment for all of us I think. I remember coming in through the backstage curtain 20 minutes before showtime and the tent was already beyond full capacity, and I turned to Mango and was like “are you seeing what I’m seeing?”. We had put so much work into getting the show together in such a short space of time and I think we all knew it could be successful, but we never thought 14,000 people would come together to watch us – INSANE.
How do you feel BIMM has prepared you for these events?
BIMM has been super helpful in terms of prepping me for jobs on big productions such as RTE and the concert orchestra, and gaining gigging experience over the past four years. It’s definitely helped me find myself as an artist and I’ve been blessed to be around such amazing musicians.
Have you got anything else lined up over the coming year?
In the new year you can expect A LOT of new music that’s for sure! And of course getting this Commercial Modern Music degree ?!
We’re so excited to see what’s next for Erica in 2018!
