A brand new one day conference, expo and networking event will be taking place on Friday 26 January at the Clarendon Centre, Brighton from 9.00 am – 5.00 pm.
‘Appetite for Disruption’, which will be run by BIMM students, is aimed at young people with a passion for music and the music business, with all the panellists in their 20s or early 30s, in order for students to imagine where they could be in 5+ years time. It is all about getting ahead of the game by listening to the next generation, as well as challenging, educating and inspiring them.
This free event has been curated by Phil Nelson – Industry Liaison, and Music Cities Ambassador for BIMM (The British & Irish Modern Music Institute) – who anticipates over 500 students from colleges and Universities from around the UK will be attending.

Appetite for Disruption’s first keynote speech – “How did the Music Industry get to where we are in 2018?” – will be delivered by Keith Harris OBE, longtime manager of Stevie Wonder, who has also held top positions at the MMF and PPL and lectured at the University of Westminster.
The closing keynote speech entitled: “Where does the industry go from here?” and will be delivered by Chris Carey, one of the country’s top Music Economists.
During the conference, there will be topics for everyone, including A&R and getting signed / The future of streaming / Traditional labels vs label services / How do we save the grassroots music venues? / The future of ticketing / Gaining fans through social media / Gaining fans through brand partnerships.
Speakers will be from BBC Introducing / UK Music / Beggars Group / BMG / Drowned in Sound / Line of Best Fit / Domino Records / AWAL / Music Glue / and many more.
Alongside the 50 speakers and influential panellists – hailing from all corners of the industry – there will be music industry stands including The Ivors Academy, PRS and the MU.
