MEGAN DIXON HOOD BBC RADIO 2 PREMIERE

Megan Dixon Hood is a nineteen year old singer-songwriter from Cheshire and is currently a third year Songwriting student at BIMM Manchester. She has been enjoying a flurry of exciting attention for a moving ballad she has written and released entitled ‘Early Morning Riser’.

None other than the national treasure, radio DJ and TV personality Sir Terry Wogan has professed to having fallen in love with Megan’s track, originally made available last year, and requested the exclusive opportunity to air the track on ‘Weekend Wogan’, his Sunday lunchtime show on BBC Radio 2.

Wogan has previously been responsible for bringing national attention to music by Eva Cassidy and Katie Melua via his radio show, so Megan was ‘excited and thrilled’ that ‘Early Morning Riser’ found a fan in the well-loved DJ. She explained how it all came about:

I recently supported Ciaran Algar at his album launch. Ciaran has won the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards twice so I’m sure that could have helped somehow. A radio producer then recommended my song to Terry Wogan’s producer who played it to Terry.”

Sir Terry introduced Megan’s song as ‘An exclusive first play on National Radio, in fact the whole Universe!’ and joked about himself in the song’s title, ‘Early Morning Riser’, sighing: ‘I was one of those once…’

More good news followed for Megan when her song was selected to appear on the in-house playlist at the popular national chain, Café Nero. With the track added to their monthly playlist, Megan’s music will be broadcast through Café Nero’s around the world, including Europe, the Middle East and USA! So, in between Sir Terry on the radio and ordering your next latte, make sure to keep your ears open for the sound of Megan’s lovely piano ballad – we’re sure it’s going to be just the beginning.
