Songwriting student raising funds for DRCC

10 April, 2019

A Songwriting student at BIMM Music Institute Dublin will be donating all proceeds generated from her upcoming single launch event to the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre (DRCC).

Aoife Carton, who is currently in her final year of a BA (Hons) Degree in Songwriting,  released her latest single, ‘Edinburgh’ in early April, and will be celebrating its release with a special independently promoted launch event at Dublin venue ‘The Grand Social’ on April 14.

The young country artist will be donating all proceeds from ticket sales to the DRCC; a charity that does exceptional work within the city’s community to prevent harm and heal the trauma of sexual abuse victims.

“I’ve wanted to fundraise for the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre for a while now.”, said Aoife. “There are too many stories emerging within my personal life, in Irish media and within the music industry, and as an artist in the early stages of my music career, I want to start as I mean to go on. If I can offer any support, I want to do just that.

Releasing ‘Edinburgh’ means a lot to me and so does this cause, so it’s special to me that I get to celebrate its release in aid of the DRCC.”

Aoife booked and promoted the event independently, foregoing any assistance from outside promoters and therefore maximising the proceeds she’ll be donating for the event. This also gave her full creative control over the event line-up, which features fellow BIMM Dublin artist Sinéad Ann.

“Putting on a gig by myself is nerve-wrecking, but I am so excited to play this new set with my band and to see the other two amazing support acts, Sinéad Ann and Runah.”

Aoife isn’t the only member of the local music community who’s shown support for the DRCC. Fellow BIMM Dublin band ‘Munky’ are also donating to the cause with funds generated from their recent single ‘One In Five’, a title reflecting the number of people who’ve experienced some form of sexual assault in the UK.

We wish Aoife the very best of luck with her single launch gig at the end of April, especially given the incredibly worthy cause it will benefit. If you’re interested in attending, you can purchase advance tickets here.
