Steve is a graduate of The Guitar Institute and Leeds College of Music with BA (Hons) Jazz Studies, and has studied with internationally renowned guitarists including the UK’s Mike Walker and Wayne Krantz in New York. He’s worked as a session musician, band leader and solo artist, playing and performing with top musicians around the UK and abroad. He was a featured guitarist on the 2011 Colman Brothers’ release, reaching Top 10 in the iTunes UK Jazz chart, alongside live performances including the Manchester Jazz Festival.
He’s performed in the Tony Smith Band alongside Jerry Brown, playing to sold out audiences at venues including Pizza Express Jazz Club Soho, and The Poole Lighthouse Theatre. Steve co-produced and played guitars on celebrated UK Jazz vocalist Sara Colman’s 2011 album, and in 2012 he performed with Sara’s quintet at Jazzahead! in Germany; the largest Jazz expo in Europe. Live performances with Sara in 2014 have included Mostly Jazz and Blues Festival and Birmingham CBSO Centre.
Steve is also the editor of www.practisin2play.com – an online guitar tuition site led by guitarist Mike Walker. Steve is an inspiring teacher with extensive experience in individual and class tuition, having designed and taught the guitar course on the BA (Hons) Popular Music Performance at Southampton Solent University for seven years, and as resident guitar tutor on the LMFL International Jazz Summer School.
